Founded by Colin Cassidy in 1999, our family owned tool hire business has over two decades of experience providing equipment throughout the Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders. Colin, an all-round handyman with an enterprising mindset, decided to put his deep reserve of tools and equipment out to hire. Originally based out of a building he had constructed himself initially intended as a sawmill, Basically Tool Hire was born. Basically Tool Hire Story
In 1999, Colin Cassidy decided he had had enough. If you were a working man, trying to provide for your family, how many times would you be willing to lend people your tools and equipment, only to have them returned broken?
With a building built by his own hand, and originally intended as a sawmill, lying disused, he had the idea that maybe he could hire out his machines, rather than giving them away for free… and from there, one of East Scotland’s leading tool hire and repairs providers was born!
We have grown from our humble roots to where we are now: with a hire fleet consisting of a vibrating plate, a Stihl saw, a cement mixer and a rotovator and more. Basically Tool Hire has grown in to a business with everything from floor sanders to excavators.
